So I have been playing around with the symbol a bit, I came up with this a few weeks ago however forgot to post, anyway, to talk about it now, here it is...

The symbol originated from the indigenous symbol of a meeting place. This had a good relevance to this project, as a meeting place was where cultural values and lessons would be passed on through the means of a story. It also links back to our first project where we were looking into the way knowledge and understanding is passed on through songlines. In adding the hexagon around this symbol, I was taking it slightly out of its original context as it is now relating to a new need and situation. Symbolism is an important part of understanding, especially between different cultures where language becomes a barrier. I really wanted this symbol to have some depth and an underlying meaning behind it relatable to us. In a way also, by basing it on a symbol used by the traditional owners of this country, it is a reminder that our prevalent society today is based completely off migrants and outsiders, fleeing from a hard life and searching out new opportunities here, just as refugees and immigrants today are.
