Currently, media monitoring can be provided by private companies which scan and catalogue media based on several key inputs. One of these is e ability to determine the MOOD of an article based on key words. Tests have been run using this software and a post analysis showed major world events such as the Libyan revolution would have been predicted using the medias articles leading up to the actual event, had they been analysing them at the time. Mood is an essential division between news reports. Often there is little middle ground and strong views (controlled by the medias executive) is pushed in negative mood pieces. My prediction is that by 2022, this kind of system will be easily automated where mood can be successfully determined.
This is quite essential to my story hierarchy system as the number of positive articles that send an intolerant or racist view are quite minimal compared to the negative articles that do so. I don't intend this system to be 100% accurate, and nor does it need to be, as it just determines a viewing hierarchy, and the viewer still has the choice to choose to listen to a story not at the top of the list (like a google search).
None the less, this is a link to a company which does this kind of media monitoring. There are quite a few around and will the furthering of technology, it will most likely become far easier to scan and catalogue articles with little cost incurred.
